Cathedral 06:11
Take my hand At the edge of the woods Lead me The unknowable Could we stay here And recite to me all of your poetry And let me show you What you can't see That was always so clear to me I am your protector I am your cathedral Kiss my walls of stone Drink the holy water Praying on your knees I am the mother and the father And I will know you Painful and strong When you're searching And hiding And good And wrong I am your protector I am your cathedral Take my hand At the edge of the woods Lead me The unknowable Could we stay here
2.
The Weaver 04:52
On the soles of my feet are written prayers And the weaver's words are written in ash I can hear the weaver's call I can hear the weaver's call She says build me homes with nothing but breath Canyon walls to find your drum On the soles of my feet are written prayers And the weaver's words are written in ash I can hear the weaver's call I can hear the weaver's call She says climb the sky on ladders of wind Carve a crown of bull horn stars On the soles of my feet are written prayers And the weaver's words are written in ash I can hear the weaver's call I can hear the weaver's call She says find the river guarded by death Swim the current, take its teath Steal the stones of speaking

about

The Weaver is about a journey into death, into the shadow-world; something that mainstream western culture doesn’t hold a lot of space for. Death is an essential part of growth, transition, and becoming. The verses in The Weaver are much like a spell for shadow-work. The song was originally the last tune on our 2019 LP; the end of Maggie Willow’s story. Rather than jump right into releasing new work, we wanted to return to this journey through death and explore catharsis as a beginning. In a pairing with Cathedral, these two songs are an embodiment of light and dark. We constantly waver somewhere between them, visiting both sides of this coin. Cathedral is an incantation of protection, and a song of surrendering to the quality of self-defined divinity from within. It explores a profound shift towards self-reliance, and that moment when you step into the unknown. Like so many people, we have gone through a lot of change and growth during the past two years; a lot of which has been really painful and dark. So we wanted to honor that darkness, because that’s also where the light begins to come back.

about

Hawthorn Boston, Massachusetts

Hawthorn, created by Heather Scott and Taylor Holland, “digs into its folk roots while also reminding us that tradition is about tending to the flame, not the ashes” (NPR). “When they harmonize, the edges of their voices bleed together like watercolors on paper” (WBUR). Their LP Maggie Willow was named to WBUR and Sound of Boston’s top albums of 2019. ... more
